Goals of the “Secular Movement for Lebanon”

Secular Movement for Lebanon We are presenting the first ideas generated and agreed upon by the founding group of the “Secular Movement for Lebanon” with the contribution of all Lebanese who shared with us their valuable ideas and opinions from all around the world. We believe our goals will create Lebanon “SECULAR”, a nation for all Lebanese from different religious and confessional backgrounds that will embrace its people in a civic society. This diversity will become a unification force for the Lebanese society and will never be a subject to divide the Lebanese among themselves. The crucial subjects we need to work on in order to reach our goals are: · Developing the Lebanese national belonging and attachment to Lebanon not to religions and confessions through educational and upbringing programs · Building a nation embracing all Lebanese as equal citizens regardless to their beliefs or religious backgrounds · Elimination of social sectarian discrimination and riddance of sectarian based employment · Separation of religion and state. Religion should not interfere with or be integrated into the public affairs of a society. Do you believe that a modern electoral system based on proportional representation will pave the way to abolish the confessional political system in Lebanon? Do you believe in a fully capable government on the political, military and diplomatic levels and do you reject the notion “Lebanon’s strength is Lebanon’s weakness”?
