Sheikh Khalifa Medical City,

Abu Dhabi.

It is the first formal volunteer services program in the UAE. This initiative encourages volunteer involvement of all nationalities. It is a well-organized program headed by a manager of volunteer services who will ensure that you are placed in an area that matches your interests and needs. Volunteers must attend an orientation to the hospital and commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week. The minimum age of volunteers is 14 years. Uniforms are provided. There are a variety of placement areas,
primarily during the daytime (8:30 am and 5:00 p.m.) which include:

 
 * Accompanying patients for tests, visiting, and helping them with leisure activities on the Medical, Surgery, and Pediatric Wards, and Coronary Care Unit.
 * Assisting the information desk by escorting patients and visitors to different locations within the hospital  

*  Clerical and patient tasks at the Outpatient Specialty Clinics.
*  Helping patients complete their menus and performing a variety of tasks in the Dietetic Department.
* Assisting with inventory control in Materials Management
* Providing information and working with children at health promotion booths (occasionally )
* Helping patients practice exercises provided by Speech Pathology Department.
* Assisting with setting up a patient library.
